Screen on the Green (Piedmont Park)

The longest-running outdoor movie festival in Atlanta is celebrating its eleventh season in 2010 and returns to its home in Piedmont Park for the first time in three summers. Crowds, usually numbering in the thousands, gather on the southeast lawn to watch movies on a giant inflatable screen measuring over fifty feet wide and twenty five feet high. An unfortunately lackluster lineup this year, however, detracts from the largest of the outdoor cinema events.

Best bet

Star Wars on June 24. Sure, you've seen it dozens of times, but never with twenty thousand of your closest friends.

Directions

Piedmont Park is located in midtown Atlanta between Tenth Street, Piedmont Avenue and Monroe Drive. Screen on the Green is held in the park's southeast lawn, along Tenth Street between Monroe and Charles Allen Drive. Limited parking is available on the surrounding neighborhood streets. The Midtown MARTA station (N4) is located just under a mile west of the movie festival area; bus #45 leaves the station at 7:00, 7:35 and 8:30 and can take you directly to the movie with time to find a great spot in the meadow.
